Our students are wrapping up their first major project on the iPads!
We completed our interpretation text set unit and decided to have the students share their skills and knowledge of theme and text evidence in a very creative way!
Students spent a week analyzing their books and finding scenes, events, and character quotes that represented the theme of the book. They took notes to document the evidence and explained how each piece of evidence supported the theme.
Once that was done they had a choice of either creating a Book Trailer (like a movie trailer) that shared the theme, or a poster filled with symbols and images that correlated to the evidence they found.
The posters would have images liked to the App called Aurasma. The images in their poster become videos when scanned with the iPads. This allowed the students to create videos where they explained the photos and how they related to the theme of the story.
For example; in a project on Bud, Not Buddy, a student could put a picture of a jazz band flyer on this poster. Then, he could create a video explaining that the Jazz Posters arethe only clues that Bud has to who his father is. These posters represent the theme of "finding a place where you belong" because they are the clues that Bud uses to find the man he believes to be his father. When you used the Aurasma App to scan the picture of the jazz poster - it would play the video explanation!
Our students are incredibly proud of their work! As teachers, weare blown away by the amazing products they have created!
NOW WE KNOW--
In your classroom, I would recommend teaching all the Apps you plan on using in a separate setting ahead of the project. Students who have an understanding of how the App functions beforehand will be much more independent when creating a project using them.
